History of perfumery, ancient Egypt – a summary

The Egyptians that were burning their herb in order to praise the god, as sort of an offering, discovered the perfume this way, thousands and thousands of years ago in Egypt. Many think that perfumery goes back only to the 16th or 17th century, some even think it's a modern invention, but the truth is that like most primal things – perfume too has been discovered in a blazing fire meant to please an ancient god.

It could be that they were doing that thinking that some rain or natural disaster is an outrage by their god, it could be just a tribunal thing, but we know for certain that after discovering that some burnt herbs smell better than the others, they have started wearing them.

Even the simple men at that time in history have come to conclusion that there needed to be an ingredient added to the mix in order for the perfume to last longer than a few minutes.

Very much like today's western cultures, the ancient Egyptians worshiped beauty and fashion and they were very much interested in having the perfume lasting for longer time. Then, they remembered their smear their deads with oil in order to preserve their young look for the years to come (I told you before: they WORSHIPED beauty, and youth is a big part of it).

They were the first to mix herb with oil to get nose-pleasing combinations we call perfume in our times.

  1. Very Interesting one. Perfumes became very important among beauty products now-a days. David-off cool water is been my favorite perfume for years. I just love the fragrance.
